Use this before you send a part out for quote. The more of it you include, the faster and tighter the quote comes back.
Files
- Native CAD or STEP (AP214 or AP242) of the current revision
- PDF drawing with revision level and date
- DXF flat pattern for sheet metal, if you have one
- Photos of the existing part or the assembly it goes into
The part
- Material and spec (6061-T6, not just aluminum), or say what it needs to survive
- Finish and any masking (anodize type and class, powder coat color, plating thickness)
- Critical dimensions and the ones that are just nice to have
- Surface finish where it matters (Ra on seal faces, bearing bores)
- Any GD&T datums that must match the mating part
The job
- Quantity now, and expected annual volume if it becomes a production part
- Need date, and whether it is a hard date
- Inspection requirements: FAI, CoC, material certs, PPAP level
- Packaging and shipping requirements
- Who the technical contact is, and whether an NDA is needed first
Context that saves money
- What the part does and what it touches
- What failed on the last version, if there was one
- Whether the design is frozen or open to DFM changes
