Engineer, veteran, racer.

I started in the Air Force in 2010, working in classified weapons maintenance and then aircraft maintenance. That is where I learned to read a spec, follow a procedure, and not sign off on anything I have not checked myself.

After the service I worked my way through manufacturing. I ran CNC mills and CMMs, tested composites in a lab, designed press dies and fixtures, and built robot cells. At Blum-Novotest I designed and integrated in-process laser and probe metrology systems.

Today I am a senior product engineer at a manufacturer, working on castings, vendor tooling and first article approvals. Kind of a Big Dill is my own shop, where I take on design, tooling, inspection and software work for companies that need an engineer who has been on both sides of the drawing.

I keep the business small on purpose. You work with me directly, from the first call to the final drawing. If a job is outside what I do well, I will tell you and point you to someone who does.

And yes, the name is a joke. The work is not.

Path

How I got here

  1. 2010 to 2016

    United States Air Force

    Classified weapons maintenance, then aircraft maintenance. Specs, procedures, and quality assurance every day.

  2. After the service

    Manufacturing floor

    Assembly and plant layout. CNC milling, CMM and comparator inspection. Composites testing in an independent lab.

  3. 2016 to 2019

    Tooling and automation

    Press tooling, dies, and robot cells for production manufacturing.

  4. 2019 to 2022

    Metrology design

    Designed and integrated in-process laser and probe metrology systems for machine tools.

  5. 2022 to now

    Independent client work

    Design, reverse engineering, and fabrication projects for motorsport and product companies. Formalized as Kind of a Big Dill LLC in 2024.

  6. Today

    Senior product engineer

    Full-time product engineering in manufacturing, plus Kind of a Big Dill as my own shop.
