3D print cost & time estimate
FDM 3D print estimator: filament mass and cost from part volume, infill and wall settings, print time from a chosen deposition rate, and a shop cost with machine rate and labor.
3D print cost & time estimate
A quote-level estimate from the model volume your CAD or slicer reports. Good for sanity checking a slicer, pricing a small batch, or deciding whether to print or machine.
Deposited volume: V_dep = V_model · (shell + infill · (1 − shell)) · (1 + support). Shell is the fraction of the model that is solid walls, top and bottom; small parts run 30 to 50%, big boxy parts 15 to 25%.
Mass: m = V_dep · ρ. Material cost: m · price per kg.
Time: t = V_dep / deposition rate. A 0.4 mm nozzle at 0.2 mm layers lands around 8 to 15 mm³/s on a typical machine, a 0.6 nozzle 20 to 30, high-speed printers more. Check one real print and set your rate from it.
Cost: material + machine hours × machine rate + labor. Price: cost × (1 + markup).
Filament prices are editable defaults, not a quote. Deposition rate is the number that matters most, so calibrate it against a print you have timed. Slicer time estimates beat this once you have the file sliced.
